The SAT is a standardized test used in college admissions in the United States. It is administered by the College Board and measures reading, writing, and math skills.
Since March 2024, the SAT has been fully digital in the United States. Students take it on a computer through the College Board’s testing app. The test lasts about two hours and fourteen minutes, shorter than the old three-hour paper version.
The digital SAT has two sections: Reading and Writing, and Math. Each section is split into two modules, and the second module adapts to how you did on the first. Scores still run from 400 to 1600.
Many colleges use SAT scores alongside grades, essays, and activities to judge readiness. But testing policies have shifted: many schools are now test-optional, meaning you can apply without scores. Check each college’s policy before you register.
